Unlike traditional liposuction which can have a lengthy and cumbersome post-op process, after receiving a Smart Lipo treatment you’ll find that there is little to do except to get on with your life.
When talking about recovery time there are two ways of looking at this question. With many traditional liposuction methods there are two recovery phases. The recovery time required after undergoing a general anesthetic procedure.
An hour or two that it takes for the general anesthetic to wear off and for your body to become responsive to its environment. Then there is a second recovery period. The time it takes for you to get back on your feet and resume normal activity. This secondary recovery time can take anywhere from 3 – 4 weeks or longer.
The recovery period requires significantly less down time than traditional liposuction.
However, sometimes recovery does not go as smoothly. There are patients who do not simply have normal bruising and swelling and then feel better. There are some complications that can occur, and if they do you need to consult your plastic surgeon. He will then be able to deal with the complications in order to minimize the risk.
The incisions will close up by themselves within a few days. Compression garments are an important part of the recovery process, and you’ll probably be instructed to wear it for the first 24 hours after the procedure. Then, for approximately two weeks, you’ll need to continue wearing the garment for 12 or so hours per day.
Also, if the bruising and swelling fails to go away after several weeks, you will need to call your doctor. He will be able to check and see if there are problems that need to be dealt with. In most cases, bruises and swelling will start to dissipate within days and is gone within weeks. If you are not on schedule with that, you need to find out why.
Remember, your physician is there to answer your questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
